Moreland Memo to Agents RE. Amplify Austin

Agents, something wonderful is coming to Austin, and Moreland is going to play a big part in it!  On March 4-5, I Live Here I Give Here will be promoting Austin’s first ever city wide day of giving. With over 330 local charities participating, the goal will be for the collective donations received by those charities in one 24 hr period to total $1 Million.   The day is called Amplify Austin, and I’m pleased to announce Moreland is going to have a hand in turning up the volume.

Moreland agents have always been big givers, and most of the participating charities are ones already near and dear to our hearts so the decision to support this effort should be an easy one.  Moreland Properties will be participating as a Business Fundraiser and all dollars given or encouraged by Moreland will be tallied and shown on a leader board with other businesses doing the same.

Beginning at 7pm on March 4, 2013, Central Texans will be encouraged to log on to www.amplifyATX.org to give to their favorite causes from a list of over 300 local nonprofits.  With each donation, they can choose Moreland from a drop down menu as the business that informed them of the day and we’ll see our dollars tallied.    Together we can do great things for our community, and Moreland Properties needs to spread the word to make sure everyone knows about it, and gets to their computer on that day!

Below is a video that will be aired to promote the day, and it is one of the most wonderful videos I have ever seen.  You must all watch it.  It features local artist Kat Edmondson and really shows off Austin.  I hope all of Moreland will join me in spreading the word, choosing our cause/s, and donating.

I Want to __________ on the Lake!

List of Places to Launch & Lounge on Lake Austin and Lake Travis | Moreland Properties | Austin, TX

What do you want to do on the lake this summer? With the weather already cooperating, it’s high-time for outdoor adventures. And with three lake sections of the Colorado River, Austin is well equipped to handle whatever aquatic activity you’re pining for.

In our 25 years in Austin we have accrued a wealth of area knowledge, but nothing quite so in-depth as our knowledge of the lakes around town (it’s kind of what we’re known for). So, we’ve put together a little map  (see below) of our favorite spots for launching and lounging, so you’ll always know where to go when you’re heading out to the water.

Oh, and if you want to LIVE on (or near) the lake, drop us a line… we get it.

Austin’s Class of 2012

Happy Graduation from Moreland Properties!

The gowns are flowing, caps are flying, and there are more smiles around Austin than usual. It’s graduation season all over the city. And while this month’s neighborhood spotlight highlight will be on the UT/Hyde Park neighborhood we want to take a minute to say something to everyone who is that much closer to becoming the person they see themselves being when they grow up.

To everyone who survived their first full-day of school without mom or dad…

Completed their first science fair project with minimal collateral damage…

Juggled sports, clubs, AP classes, test prep, friends and family…

Stayed focused through the perils of senioritis

Existed exclusively on Ramen or successfully avoided it all together…

Sacrificed summer for extra classes and internships…

We extend our sincerest congratulations to each and every Class of 2012!
We are so excited to see how this most recent success will bring you one step closer to changing Austin and the world!

From kindergarten graduation to doctoral regalia. We get it.

Neighborhood Spotlight – Downtown Austin

With everything going on in downtown Austin lately (namely today’s unveiling of the Willie Nelson statue) we thought we’d kick off our new Monthly neighborhood spotlight with a post about downtown. Take a look at our neighborhood video below to get a feel for the people, area and businesses that make-up one of Austin’s greatest cultural hubs. Let us know what you think and what makes downtown special to you!

Fast becoming one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in the city, Downtown Austin is a revitalized urban oasis beckoning those in search of casual yet cosmopolitan living. Filled with arts, culture, music, history, fashion, food and fitness, downtown is as diverse as the people who live, work and play there. With real estate choices ranging from luxury high-rise condominiums, like The Austonian, to modest studio rental units, this “lock and leave” lifestyle is alluring to many empty-nesters, young professionals and busy entrepreneurs. With its educational opportunities, museums and proximity to the lake and parks, young families are also finding downtown Austin real estate an attractive option. Area residents enjoy a real sense of community as they walk to everything, from work to the Saturday morning farmer’s market. Whatever your passion, many find Downtown a lifestyle choice they don’t want to leave.

From street art to fine art. We get it.

International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day is celebrated across the globe March 8th each year. In different cultures and groups, celebrations range from a commemoration of women’s economic, political and social achievements, to simple expressions of love and appreciation by way of small gifts – a cross between Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day. (Source: Wikipedia)

We here at Moreland take this day to heart because without the ambition and brilliance of one extraordinary woman in particular, our company would not exist. So we give thanks to our founder, Emily Moreland, who has throughout her career served Austin and the real estate industry with extraordinary dedication and integrity. Thank you, Emily.

We give additional thanks to all of the women, agents and staff, who work hard to make Moreland what it is. Without their hard work and commitment to going the extra mile, we wouldn’t be able to reach the lengths we have to date and look to reach in the future.

Appreciating the wonderful women who make Austin and Real Estate great. We get it.

Oh, Austin, how we love thee!

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, we have come up with fourteen lines dedicated to our favorite city! (In a Shakespearean sonnet, of course.)

Oh, Austin, how we love thee!

Ringing shore to shore, Keep Austin Weird.
But we learned long ago, what’s in a name?
For if toward another moniker steered,
Austin would be loved by all, just the same!

Daily, so many things to do and see;
Innovation, beauty, growth and success.
From work to play, this city knows the key
Live to the fullest! What Austin does best!

Hip downtown condos or lakefront estates,
Old West Austin or hill country retreats,
Whether historic or modern your tastes,
From SoLa and SoCo to Barton Creek,

Whatever your needs you will find a fit!
So much to love about Austin. We get it!

We here at Moreland Properties wish everyone a very Happy Valentine’s Day! Enjoy your loved ones and the great city of Austin!

The End of the Year

2011 has come to an end and even with everything we have to look forward to in 2012, it’s still been a challenge to say goodbye to such a good year.

This past year we had the privilege of celebrating our 25th anniversary serving Austin’s real estate market; something that gives us pride we can’t even begin to describe. We’ve welcomed great new agents annew staff to the Moreland family. And we’ve had the opportunity to grow and plan for an even better year ahead.

So, keep an eye on us… there will be lots of great new things happening at Moreland! And for those moments you’re feeling a bit nostalgic over 2011, we’ve put up 25 pictures of some of the properties sold this year to make the transition a bit easier. We get it.

Moreland Properties Turns 25

Is that old for a real estate company?  We feel like we are just getting started.  Thinking back to what our business was like in 1986 is like looking at an old vintage movie! There were no fax machines. The actual paper listing data had to be mailed into the Austin Board of Realtors. We all waited anxiously for the BOOK (MLS catalog) to be delivered every 2 weeks.  Many times when the BOOK came the new listings were already sold.  No one had a CELL PHONE. No one had a COMPUTER. There was no INTERNET. How in the world did we do any business?  I can even remember having a client send a paper telegram verifying that he had accepted the seller’s counter since we had gotten into a multiple offer situation; this buyer had returned to his home city and I could not get his initials that night.

As the world began to change many of us were reluctant to trust all the new technology.  There was almost an uprising of agents to sue the Austin Board of Realtors for eliminating our BOOK!!! We just had to be forced to embrace the new way of doing business. Now we can see what our market is doing in lightning speed.  We track the active, pending and sold listings daily in the markets we work.  We can even see what is happening in other cities through our online data.

All of this is exciting.  We have the fascinating world of the World Wide Web and believe me, it is changing every minute of the day.  Social media sites like Facebook & Twitter, real estate sites like Trulia & Zillow, and so many others can be used by individual agents as well as a company to enhance their business. At Moreland Properties our mission is to embrace all of this and yet never lose the very personal side of our business which is to help people find, purchase and enjoy a lovely place to call home.

As we move into the next quarter of a century, my dream is for our city to continue to be the shining star of Texas as the most fabulous place to live, work and play. I consider it an honor and a privilege to be in business in Austin, Texas.
