How to Better Organize Your Living Room
Organization doesn’t have to be tricky, and these quick tips will help you keep your living room looking spick and span no matter how chaotic your household gets.
Keep flat surfaces clutter-free. By eliminating papers, books and other miscellaneous objects from the flat surfaces in your living room, you’re automatically making the space look more put together. Since the living room is a gathering place for friends and is most commonly centrally located, it accumulates knick knacks faster than other spaces in the home.
Create a kid’s corner. If you have kiddos running around who always seem to be leaving their toys around the living area, invest in a chic bin or basket you can keep in a corner for misplaced toys. Encourage them to return toys to the basket when they’re done, so you can easily put them where they belong at the end of the day!
Take advantage of the space behind the sofa. If you have space behind your sofa and it’s not up against the wall, utilize it for organization instead of leaving it empty. By adding a tall, shallow organization unit, you’ll have a space to keep extra blankets and pillows so your living room doesn’t look disheveled.
Don’t let collectibles curate. While a few funky accents are interesting on any mantle or bookshelf, there can be too much of a good thing. Keep your collectibles to a minimum and only display the most unique of them all so your space looks less like a museum and more like a well-organized home.
Hide your movie collection. Nothing makes a living room look less organized than a shelf with movies strewn about in no particular order. If you can keep your movies hidden behind the doors of a bookcase or built-in, that’s ideal! If you don’t have those options for organization, be sure that all movies are facing the same way and are fit tightly in the space without shifting over to the side.
Use a tray for your coffee table. Using a tray table as an organizational piece will bring a touch of style to your living room! Place remotes, coasters and anything else you may need to have sitting out in your living room on the tray so it’s easily accessible and easily movable.
