Bertina Schreiber, Realtor, CNE
Bertina Schreiber, REALTOR®, CNE, Platinum 50 Finalist, TX License, talks about her past two decades in real estate, what she looks for in a home, and how she follows her passion for volunteering outside of work.
I've worked 21 years in real estate, and a little over 16 years with Moreland. I started in Oklahoma and moved back to my native home of Texas in 1989, starting work with Moreland Properties in July 2001. In between that time, I was a mom raising twin daughters, owned a title company branch office, and opened two retail stores.
How She Gets Involved
I am a Trustee at Bee Creek United Methodist Church and have been involved in disaster relief, children’s, and women’s ministry for over ten years. My true passion has become disaster relief as a trained early responder. There’s nothing like helping people who have been displaced from their homes and, in some cases, have lost everything.
We have a team that goes once a year and devotes a week of our time to an area of homes that need repair after a disaster hits. In the case of Wimberley, we went back another week and then spent time helping out certain individuals who needed more work on their homes -- this entailed a few additional weeks. We have followed every hurricane since Katrina affected the southern region of the U.S., including Hurricanes Ike, Dolly, and Alex. We also helped in the aftermath of the explosion in West, TX, and tornadoes in Oklahoma.
Once you meet the affected homeowner, your heart is filled with a greater desire to help. We may have not felt like doing things such as changing paint colors ten times in one home, but once you meet the owner and hear why they have chosen a certain path, your heart melts and you dive in with a greater enthusiasm.
Her perfect weekend in Austin
I love Lake Travis and when we have some spare time, we like to take the pontoon out and go to the Gnarly Gar for a sunset meal to enjoy the lake in the evening. Eating out in some of our city’s finest restaurants is always a pleasure, too. We love Jack Allen's!
The Property She Can't Forget
Yes, I sold a $4.5M waterfront property with two pools. One of the pools had a slide that splashed into the lower pool! I thought it would take a year to sell since we were in a bit of “down” market, but it sold in 3 weeks and closed 3 weeks later -- all cash. That was a real surprise!!
What She Looks For in a Home
I always hope to purchase something with a view and/or a great location. To find a home with views of the lake and hill country makes the property really special! Outdoor living space is important as well. I own two such properties, both with boat docks!
