Her Real Estate Journey
I have been with Moreland 23 years, and that is how long I have been in real estate as well. I have always loved houses, as my dad was a builder, then my husband also went into building. When all of our four children were in school, I realized my little cottage freelance art industry was getting to be very solitary and I wanted some more interaction with people. I thought about what I could do on a “part time” basis and decided real estate would be great as I could work around my children’s activities. In two weeks time I had finished all my classes and gotten my license! As I spoke with friends and acquaintances, three different people told me I should go talk with Emily Moreland… So I did! I jumped into real estate head first, learning there isn’t really a “part time” aspect to it, but I so have had the flexibility I sought even if I am up working late at night.
In Her Community
I have been involved with YoungLife for more than 30 years, serving on local committees, the Lone Star Regional Board, leading college leaders and taking on many roles throughout this mission. I also volunteered quite a bit when my children were in various levels of school in PTA’s, booster clubs and countless sports and volunteer roles. This was a favorite time for my family and I miss it.
The Perfect Austin Weekend
I love cool mornings, getting up early, having my coffee, walking a my Golden Retriever on the trail, then breakfast somewhere like Magnolia Cafe or Texas Honey Ham Company. I also love to kayak with friends or go hiking in our great parks such as McKinney Falls or the Army Corps of Engineer park in Georgetown. We once took a friend from Australia on a Segway tour of Austin (thinking we wouldn’t learn much), but we had a blast and learned a ton about the City — And I am an Austin native!
Her Memorable Real Estate Transactions
I think of clients more than actual properties when remembering sales. There are a couple of buyers I have worked with that I just grew to love! They were so gracious and thoughtful from beginning to end. I suppose we all have the hard transactions and good transactions and all varying degrees in between. Most of my experiences have taught me lessons about the properties for sure, but also about people, life and how I want to serve my clients.
What Makes a House a Home
For me, it is the property (land) verses the house. With my husband’s help and talent, I can make the changes we need to make to a house what we like and need. I need trees and an incredible deck and backyard area as we spend so much time outside enjoying nature, our dogs and now grandchildren.
